Kelly Keymer, DVM
Dr. Keymer provides relief work for us. She is working behind the scenes on client inquiries, labwork review and prescriptions! She occassionally is in clinic working appointments.
Dr. Kelly Keymer grew up on the front range of Colorado, spending most of her time playing with horses and convincing her family that the latest dog or cat in need would only be in the house for a little while. Dr. Kelly has always had a deep appreciation for the joy and peace that animals bring to our lives. The desire to "make good" on the faith that animals place in the people in their lives remains at the center of her approach to life and veterinary practice.
Dr. Kelly completed her undergraduate studies in Equine Science and Microbiology at Colorado State University. She obtained her veterinary degree from Iowa State University in 2010. Dr. Kelly began her career in Virginia Beach, practicing as an emergency veterinarian for several years.
Dr. Kelly has always had an interest in animal rehabilitation and she was guided down her current path by her equine companion of 15 years, Johnson. He acutely became weak in the hind-end, leading to severe pain and difficulties moving. After numerous tests and treatments, it was determined that he likely had a traumatic injury to the pelvic nerves and musculature. Dr. Posie Magurn, a local veterinary equine therapist, administered soft tissue manipulation, chiropractic care, and acupuncture treatments. Johnson immediately became more comfortable and balanced. Through the eyes of a concerned client, Kelly was astounded by how much this therapy had helped her equine friend. She then sought out mentorship from Dr. Magurn, learning how a whole horse approach could make a huge difference in the well-being of equine athletes and companion animals. Dr. Kelly then chose to shift her career focus to pain management and performance enhancement. She obtained her veterinary acupuncture certification from the Curacore Program in Colorado and is currently working towards her certificates in equine chiropractic and rehabilitation.
Dr. Kelly recently moved from the Pacific Northwest to southern Maryland with her husband Kory, who is an officer in the US Navy. They share their home with 2 silly dogs and a sweet older kitty. Dr. Kelly devotes her free time to building the relationship with her new horse, an OTTB affectionately known as AJ, cooking with her husband, and enjoying time on her paddleboard in the warmer months.
